“Pursuing False Idols”is a collection of paintings constructed around materialism, capitalism and classism. These descriptors affect our sense of awareness and mentality, locking us in a social purgatory. The selected pieces were inspired by a Dave Ramsey quote, “We buy things we don’t need with money we don’t have to impress people we don’t like.” This particular body of work exploits pop culture images that are created to demonstrate success and happiness. Financial priority and the concept of true long-‐term wealth is lost within the broader community. Artist Zeph Farmby states that "through my work, I want to give the self-‐conscious a serious workout and challenge the mind to think beyond its own insecurities; insecurities that were placed there unbeknownst to us. Don’t be a victim of societal contradiction."
